Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust required new facilities for the Hospital Radio which would give the service a more prominent position within the main atrium space of the building. An internal shelf on the 2nd floor was identified as most suitable. The new Hospital Radio Pod accommodates the main sound-proofed studio with a large picture window looking out onto the main 2nd floor walkway, with an adjoining office space which became known as the i-lounge, used by the Hospital Radio volunteers to upload their programmes.

Due to its prominent location, the pod was designed to be eye-catching. Evoking the idea of transistor radios from the past but with a modern twist, the orange fins along the front face mimic the way in which a sound-wave passes through air.
