The Margarete Centre brought various Drug Service providers together onto one site in order to provide high quality facilities for both staff and patients. The existing building was remodelled internally and included a new GP surgery on the lower ground floor.

A new, 2-storey extension was constructed, incorporating a walled landscaped garden. This provided a private amenity space for staff and a pleasant outlook for patients. Drug Service patients tend to be treated in poor quality accommodation that does not enhance either their own or the staff’s self-respect or their sense of well-being. The new internal spaces were planned to provide secure and interesting accommodation for patients and staff. Special care was taken with the specification of materials, colours and furniture so that patients were provided with a dignified, high quality environment.

The Centre was opened by Mo Mowlam who commended the completed project saying it was an exemplary drug service building.
